The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, NILDS, has convened the 2022 Management retreat.

The retreat, which took place in Abuja, with the theme, “Promoting Inter-Departmental Synergy for greater productivity” was organized as part of NILDS’s strategic mandate for providing technical support and building the capacity of the Legislature and other institutions of democracy in Nigeria.

The retreat is also meant to bolster a better understanding of the individual mandates of the various departments and allow management staff to share experiences on practices and structures that work, identify some of the challenges they face individually and collectively, and devise ways of overcoming some of the obstacles identified.

Speaking at the event, the Director General, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman, said the retreat provides an avenue “for Management to assess the progress made so far, the impact of these changes on the operations of departments, some of the successes registered to this point, as well as challenges experienced and how we can collectively tackle them going forward”.

While underscoring the theme of this year’s retreat, the DG said the thematic focus is meant to poke the Institute’ Management team on how NILDS can sustain and surpass its impressive track record of performance over the years.

Prof. Sulaiman affirmed that the Institute is the think-tank of the Legislature and several Parliaments and institutions across Africa have visited to learn from its experience.

Consequently, it cannot afford to produce sub-standard academic and technical outputs.
