NILDS International Women Conference: Call for Conference Abstracts and Papers

NILDS International Women Conference: Call for Conference Abstracts and Papers

THEME: WOMEN REPRESENTATION IN GOVERNANCE IN NIGERIA
Abuja, Nigeria (23-24 August 2023)

  1. Introduction
Abstracts and Papers should be submitted in MS Word format via this email:
    WIGConference2023@nils.gov.ng
Despite accounting for 49.72% and 49.47% of the global and
Nigerian population, women continue to be under-represented at the
national, state, and local levels compared to their male counterparts.
Though the extant policy framework in Nigeria recommends 35%
affirmative action in favour of women, their representation in
governance, remains below 7%. Although there have been concerted
efforts by the government, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), donor
agencies and international partners towards ensuring increased
representation of women in politics and governance, gaps still
    remain.
It is in this respect that the National Institute for Legislative and
Democratic Studies (NILDS) is organizing an international
conference on women’s representation in governance. This is line
with NILDS mandate to foster intellectual discussions and
engagements on issues related to democratic development in Nigeria.
The conference, which is to hold on the 23rd and 24th of
August 2023 in Abuja, is geared towards taking a prognosis of the
challenges that women face in political representation in governance,
    and proffer solutions.
